The Fitting Process

Your hearing aid journey begins with a hearing test and personalized recommendation. Our independent clinic offers a diverse range of hearing aid styles and technologies from various manufacturers. Our team will guide you through the process, ensuring you get the device that best suits your needs. We spend time teaching you how to insert your devices as well as covering the necessary cleaning and maintenance required to keep the aids working longer. We can also help you pair other blue tooth devices to your hearing aids during the fitting.

  • How long does a hearing test take?
Typically, a hearing test at Steffler Hearing takes approximately 60 minutes, allowing us to conduct a thorough assessment of your hearing health. A longer appointment time may be needed if you require wax removal before your assessment or re-programming of your current devices afterwards.
  • How much does a hearing test cost?
Hearing tests have not been covered under OHIP since 2001 (except through an E.N.T.). In most cases we offer complimentary hearing tests. Some exceptions apply: Charges may apply for wax removal before we can proceed with a hearing test. (Maximum charge of $20 per ear). If you require a hearing evaluation for a job, schooling or licensing application there is a fee for the appointment. We currently charge $40. This fee includes a full hearing assessment as well as completion of any necessary paperwork and/or reports. If you need to have devices re-programmed that were dispensed at another clinic there is a fee for the appointment. We currently charge $40. This fee includes a full hearing assessment as well as cleaning and re-programming of your device. There may be additional charges for devices requiring out-of-warranty parts and/or a manufacturer repair. The cost varies by manufacturer and the age of the device. Please be aware that we are unable to re-program devices that have the settings locked by other clinics.
  • What should I expect during the hearing test?
Expect a comprehensive evaluation, including case history, otoscopy, tympanometry, pure tone and speech testing. The results will be explained and recommendations made based on those results.

We recommend scheduling a hearing test every 1-2 years, ensuring that any changes in your hearing health are promptly addressed.
  • Can I bring someone with me to the hearing test?
Absolutely, you are welcome to bring a friend or family member for support during the hearing test. Having a loved one present during the assessment can help them better understand your unique hearing needs and be a supportive part of your journey to improved hearing.
